Funeral servics for Mrs. Mary Ann Stanley, aged 101, the oldest person in or around Douglass, who died Wednesday evening, were held Sunday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock from the Douglass Methodist Church, conducted by Rev. Karl Magnusson and Rev. Mrs. Ruth Eckel. Burial was in the Douglass Cemetery in charge of Hilyard Funeral Home.
Music was furnished by Miss Roberta Davies and Glenn Hilyard, soloists and a quartette composed of Mrs. Virginia Kunkel, Miss Maude Haver, Harry Robinson and Elmer Elder, with Mrs. Bessie Essex as accompanist.
Bearers were Walter Essex, Dr. G.G. Whitney, Neil Anthony, Willis Owen, Walter Hartenbower and William Eckel.
Mrs. Stanley was born February 23, 1853 in Germany. She came to the U. S. with her parents and lived at Ebbenville,Indiana, before moving to Junction City, Kansas, when that town was the western end of the Union Pacific Railway.
She was married to Aaron F. Stanley in 1875 and raised five children. Two sons, Arch and William are deceased. The family moved to Douglass in 1912. Mr. Stanley died in 1929.
Mrs. Stanley has resided with her daughter Mrs. C. A. Ogg, for some years. Two other daughters, Mrs. Jennie Cooper,Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Mrs. Beulah Keiser, Hobart, Oklahoma, surrvive, also 12 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren 8 great-great-grandchildren. One of the grandchildren, Marine Pfc. Bill Stanley, is in service in Korea.
