Charles B. Reed, age 88, died early Monday, April 10, 1995, at his home in Austin.
His wife of 65 years, Evelyn Roberts Reed, died in January of this year.
Mr. Reed is survived by his four daughters, Shelby Reed Hearon of Burlington, Vermont, Fran Reed of Jersey City, New Jersey, Susan Reed Smith and Linda Reed Smith of San Antonio; ten grandchildren and five and a half great-grandchildren.
A 1927 graduate of the University of Virginia, he did graduate work at Harvard University, becoming a geophysicist and petroleum consultant for Newmont Mining Corporation, Shell Laboratory, Tenneco and others. He was the author of numerous books, including Fuels, Minerals and Human Survival and The Coal Era in the United States.
As a 48-year resident of Austin, he served on the Austin Symphony Board and was an active member of Planned Parenthood and Zero Population Growth.
Memorial services will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, April 15, 1995, at Weed-Corley-Fish Funeral Home, 3125 North Lamar in Austin, Texas.
