Obituary;
Jack Lee Arnold, age 68, of Young Harris, GA, died Sunday, February 11, 2001 at his residence. A native of Thomasville, Georgia, he had lived in Towns County, GA for the past three years. He was the son of the late Hansel George and Myrtle Elizabeth Daniels [sic] Arnold. He was a veteran of the Korean Conflict, serving in the U.S. Army. Jack was a switchman for the Norfolk and southern Railroads for 25 years before retiring. He attended the Mountain Faith Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife, Martha Merritt Arnold; three sons, David Arnold of Helen, GA, Less Owens of Hampton, GA and Steve Owens, of McDonough, GA; two sisters, Clarice Coggins of McDonough, GA and Jean Jones of Riverdale, GA; a brother, Jerry Arnold of Sunny Side, GA; and eight grandchildren. Graveside services were held at 1 pm Tuesday, February 13th in the Hayesville Baptist/Presbyterian Cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the American Legion Post 96, DAV Chapter 73, and VFW Post 10222 with the Rev. Tim Jones officiating. The family requests memorials be made to the American Heart Association, 1 Heart Circle, Chapel Hill, NC 27514. Ivie Funeral Home, Hayesville in charge of all arrangements.
