Bessie Lee Richard was born June 16, 1908 in LaDonia TX, to Herman and Lucy Richard. Bessie (a twin to Willie) had three brothers and two sisters. The family moved to Boley, OK in 1917 and later moved to OKC, where Bessie attended public schools. She united with the Shiloh Baptist Church at an early age. Her father, mother, two brothers, and two sisters preceeded her in death.

Bessie met and married Fred Mitchell, and to that union, two children were born. She later married Clem Asher. Clem, one daughter, and two grandchildren preceeded her in death. She was a devoted mother, a loving grandmother, and was loved by everyone who knew her. For many, many years, she remained at Shiloh, giving loyal and faithful service, serving in several capacities: a member of the Senior Choir, Social and Sunshine Chairman of the Senior Usher Board, and member and Secretary of the Ruth Circle of the Women's Missionary Union. She was also a member of the Friendly Friends Club.

She departed this life on October 16, 1990 from the Wilshire Nursing Home. She leaves to cherish her memory: one daughter, Mildred Neal; one brother, Horace Richard; seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren, thirteen great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
