Born Mary Alexander Scott in 1863 to Alexander Dudley Scott and Mary (Woolsey)Scott ( later Benton )

Mary was born a few months after her father was hanged durning the "Great hanging in Gainesville 1862". Her father Alexander Dudley Scott was hanged for being an alledged Union sympathizer during the Civil War.

Mary married Williamson Reece Nix September 23,1886. This was a year after Williamson lost his first wife Emma A. Yates during child birth...Emma died a day after her child. Mary apparently made sure Williamson was buried next to his first wife and first son.

Mary had four sons with Williamson, Ocea Lee,William Reece,Alonzo Veich and Dothan Henry.

Mary married John Thomas Hassell on February 22,1925. She was married to John until 1942 when he passed away.

Many family members remember her house and garden in Throckmorton. She apparently was a very good gardener.
