Richard John Casey, 54, of Mattoon, formerly of Plymouth, passed away Tuesday, June 29, 2010 at Provena Covenant Medical Center in Urbana.

Richard was born Jan. 13, 1956 in Minneapolis, son of James E. and Alberta L. (Dean) Casey. He married Lori Ann Malecha, Feb. 22, 1997 in Austin. Richard was retired from Riverland Community College, where he served as an administrator. In his early years, he was an exceptional baseball player, eventually playing and coaching baseball at the Univeristy of Minnesota-Morris. Richard enjoyed spending time at the lake in Northern Minnesota and Kentucky. Family was at the center of Richard's life. He enjoyed being with family and sharing stories of the good old days.

Richard is survived by his wife, Lori; two sisters: Kathy Johnson and Vickie (Mark) Brandes; one brother, Jim (Roberta) Casey; his father and mother-in law, Gene and Jeanne Malecha; two sisters-in-law: Terry (Bill) Stacken and Sandy (Dean) Wacek; three nephews: Brad Johnson, Brandon Stacken and Dylan Wacek; two nieces: Molly Johnson and Laura King.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

A memorial Mass of Christian Burial was held at St. Mary of the Lake Catholic Church, Plymouth, with Father Patrick Casey officiating. Inurnment of ashes followed in St. John's Cemetery, Darwin, MN.
