Mendota Irene Scott, 77, of Miami died Saturday, Aug. 2, 2008, at her home after a lengthy illness.
Mrs. Scott was born Feb. 11, 1931, in Quapaw to Charles and Lottie (Nonkesis) Dawes.
She lived in the Miami and Quapaw area all of her life.
She received a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Tahlequah.
She was employed as a teacher by the Quapaw Public Schools for 16 years.
She was a member of the National Educators Association and the Quapaw chapter of the Eastern Star.
She was also a member of Spring River Indian Baptist Church.
She married John D. Scott on Nov. 21, 1961, in California. He survives, of the home.
Additional survivors include three sons, Donald E. Scott of Quapaw, Dennis J. Scott of Ozawkie, Kan., and John Lee Scott of Yorba Linda, Calif.; three daughters, Diana Wilhite of Santa Ana, Calif., Nancy Minney of Whittler, Calif., and Rae An Plemmons of Quapaw; two sisters, Coweta Ulrey of Quapaw and Lula Soper of Carl Junction, Mo.; 18 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, five sisters and four brothers.
Services will be 9 a.m. Tuesday at the Quapaw Tribal Building. The Rev. Geoff Buffalo will officiate assisted by the Rev. Ed McFall.
Burial will be in Ottawa Indian Cemetery.
Kevin Dawes and John Ballard will conduct Indian rites.
He may be viewed at the Quapaw Tribal Building.
Pallbearers will be John Lee Scott, Ted Faulkner, Josiah Plemmons, Jason Scott, Justin Scott and Dave Green.
Memorials are suggested to Heaven and Earth Hospice.
Arrangements are under the direction of Paul Thomas Funeral Home.
