Aged Veteran called to rest

This death of Mr. P. L. Black takes from Tallassee one of its oldest citizens and a Confederate Veteran whose record in the Civil War was a worthy one.

Mr. Black was born in Harris County, GA, July 14, 1840, and his death Wednesday night was due to paralysis from which he had been partially disabled for several years, and a second stroke about four weeks ago rendered him helpless and his condition hopeless. Mr. Black had made his home here for the past fifteen years and came here from Alexander City.

He received wounds while in the Civil War which no doubt hastened his death.

Deceased is survived by seven children, four of whom reside here – J. W. Black, E. L. Black, Mrs. T. J. Chaffin and Mrs. Tom Lindsey.

The funeral was under the direction of the local camp of Confederate Veterans, of which Mr. Black was a member, Mr. L. M. Lackey conducting the services. Interment was at Rose Hill.
