August C. Hartman of the Soldiers and Sailors home of Norfolk, Nebraska, died Friday, December 31, 1965 at the age of 79y and 26d. He was born Novemeber 7, 1886 in Richardson County, Nebraska. He lived at Deweese until 1910, also at Rosemont for several years. In 1928 he moved to Red Cloud where he was engaged in the Blacksmith business until his retirement.
When his health failed in 1963 he was taken to the Veterans Hospital and later transfered to the Soliers and Sailors home at Norfolk, Nebr.
He was united in marriage to Nellie Tompkins in 1922, she passed away suddenly June 19, 1965. His two children also preceded him in death.
Surviving him are four brothers and four sister; Carl of Guide Rock, Albert of Falls City, John of Omaha, Fred of Sacramento, California; Mrs. Emma Benker of Humansville, Missouri, Mrs. Louise Benker of Hastings; Mrs. Anna Rose of Blue Hill and Mrs. Minnie Snook of Loveland, Colorado. Also a host of neices, nephews and cousins.
Funeral Services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday from the Simonson Funeral Home with Rev. Ellsworth Hughes officating. Eustace Bean sang two numbers, "Beautiful Isle of Somewhere" and "Some Sweet Day", with Sylvia Beams as the organist.
The Pallbearers were: Vern Swanson, Bud Kopisch, Harld Rose, Marlin Hartman, Carl Hartman, Jr., and Keith Hartman.
Internment was in the Guide Rock Cemetery with military rites by the Red Cloud Post.
