wife of John Oeland who as born 17 Nov 1771 in Ribe, Jutland, Denmark, died 1843 Glenn Springs, Spartanburg, SC.

From a sketch of Dr John Christian Oeland in JBO Landrum's History of Spartanburg County, p 495: "The father, John Oeland was born November 6th, 1771, in Denmark, Jutland State, Town Baefu. He emigrated to Charleston, SC, date unknown, and engaged in the mercantil business successfully," and susequently removed to his home(died) near Glenn's Spring, February 8th, 1843. His first wife was Ann, third daughter of Mr J Hodge, married May 10th, 1798. No children. The second marriage was to Miss Catharine Louisa Faber, June 5th, 1836. By this marriage were born two sons and a daughter." One of the sons was Professor Peter J Oeland, a graduate of South Carolina College, who for many years was a successful school teacher in Spartanburg county. The other son was Dr John Christian Oeland. The daughter, Miss Ann, became the wife of Dr James Jordan Vernon." **corrections: The father, John's, DOB is actually 11/17/1777. John & first wife Ann had one daughter, Jane Humphries. John emigrated to America in 1790 at age 19.

"Charleston Daily News" 24 May 1867 : Mrs. Catherine Louisa Oeland died...residence of her dau. Mrs. Dr. Vernon....in Spartanburg on 5th ultimate aged eighty years, four months, and one day.....Mrs. Oeland was a native of the City of Charleston, and her maiden name was Clark. She was married first to Mr. William Faber, and then to Mr. John Oeland.

"Charleston Daily Courier" 8 Nov. 1806:
Married, on Thursday evening, by the Rev. Mr. Faber, Mr. William G. Faber, to Miss Catharine Clark; both of this city.

Gravesite Details

The Oeland Family Cemetery was located on the family Plantation. The Plantation & house are now gone except for a large rock that the chimney was built on. The Cemetery is now part of Croft State Park. Located off Groce Rd.
