BLAKESMITH - Uriah Thomas Blakesmith, son of Thomas and Louise Conway Blakesmith, was born October 23, 1884, in Bridgeport, Ohio, and departed this life in Chariton, Iowa, on January 2, 1969 after a lingering illness, at the age of 84 years, two months and ten days.
At an early age he moved with his parents to West Virginia and then to Iowa, where he engaged in coal mining until his retirement in 1946.
He was united in marriage to Isabella Hart on December 4, 1907 at Clarkesburg, W. Va. They returned to Iowa in 1912 and resided in Bussey until 1913 when they moved to Chariton. To this union seven children were born.
He leaves to mourn his passing his wife, Isabelle; seven children; Mrs. Elsie McDonald of Chariton; Mrs. Glenneth Fuller of Des Moines; Bassel of Charleston, S.C.; Mrs. Maxine Hough of Colorado Springs, Colo.; Mrs. Helen Kolling of Des Moines; Charles of Chariton; and Mrs. Arlene Perry of Mason City. Also surviving are eight grandchildren as well as one brother, Gus; and two sisters; Mrs. Dora Danley and Mrs. Sarah Clevenger, all of Clarksburg, W. Va.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Paul C. Ellis at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 4, 1969, at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
