Dayton's father was Richard J Furman. Dayton lived most of his life in Wyalusing and Starrucca, Pennsylvania as a long-time railroader, working on the Lehigh Valley, Erie, and Delaware and Hudson lines. Wife Nancy Brown died in 1923. Furman took his own life. Survivors included thirteen children and their families. Services were held at both Terwilliger and Woolsey Chapel, Front Street, Port Jervis, New York and at the Methodist Church, Starrucca, Pennsylvania.
