CARL HIMMELBAUER

Death Sat. morning, following a long illness, of Carl Himmelbauer, better
known under the name of Carl Bauer. The deceased was born 31 yrs. ago in
Terre Haute, Indiana, and was a son of former local resident and cigar
manufacturer Himmelbauer and his wife Ida (nee Esslinger). When he grew up
he dedicated himself to the stage and worked many years as a member of
theatrical touring companies. He spent his youth here in the family of his
uncle, Henry Burger. For a few years he was a partner in the firm of Theodor
Schmidtmann’s Sons & Co. He made a trip to the south early last year but fell
ill during the trip and was brought to Terre Haute to the residence of his
sister there. In June he moved back here to the home of his above named uncle.
It was determined that his consumption could not be cured. He leaves 2 brothers
and 2 sisters. The funeral was held Mon. afternoon.

Saturday morning, Carl Himmelbauer, of late years better known as Carl Bauer,
died at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Burger on South 9th Street. He was born at
Terre Haute, Ind., and when four years old came into the household of the Burger
family. He received his education here and being of a cheerful and obliging
disposition made hosts of friends. Having a liking for the stage he entered the
ranks of the actors and for several years toured the country until a few years
ago when he joined the firm of Theo. Schmidtman Sons’ Co. A year ago he left
them to again go on the road and on April 2 he was taken sick with pneumonia at
Terre Haute. June 8 he had sufficiently recovered to come to Manitowoc and here
at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Burger he has been nursed until his end came
on Saturday. Carl Bauer was born in 1872 and had reached the age of 31 years.
He was the first member of the local Order of Elks to die and under the auspices
of that order the body was laid to rest Monday afternoon at Evergreen cemetery.
