Charles Edward "Charlie" Burks was my father; he was a cotton farmer at Bosco, Ouachita Parish, Louisiana from 1941 - 1955. He was the son of George Robert Burks and 2. Martha Ellen "Mattie" Allen Burks, of Ben Wheeler, Van Zandt Co., TX; grandson of Mastin Milton Burks and Martha Jane Sanders of Oakland, Van Zandt Co., TX; and great-grandson of John Brinkley Burks and 1. Temperence Evans Burks, of China Grove, Pike Co., Alabama. He married 1. Gladys Velma Vail on Dec. 25, 1923, in Quitman, Jackson Parish, LA. They had two children, a son, Charles Edward Burks, Jr., and a daughter, Shirley Annette Burks. The son died at birth in Oct. 1924, in Danville, Bienville Parish, LA; buried in Danville Cemetery.

"The funeral of Charles E. Burks, 70, of Bastrop, will be at 10 A. M. Wed. in the chapel of Golden Funeral Home with the Rev. Maxie Hynes officiating. Burial will be in the Christ Church Cemetery in Bastrop. Mr. Burks died at 11:45 P. M. Sun. at home after a lengthy illness. He was a resident of Bastrop for the past 22 years. He was a former resident of Bosco, where he was a member of Bosco Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife, Pauline Burks of Bastrop; one daugthter, Mrs. Shirley Wells of Winnsboro; two brothers, Clyde Burks of Ft. Worth, TX and Melton Burks of Athens, TX; two sisters, Mrs. Jewel Howard and Mrs. Metta Floyd, both of Ft. Worth." (Monroe Morning World, Monroe, LA, July 1978)

Grandchildren: Jon Byron Mask, Daniel Clark Mask, and Sheri Annette Mask. Great-Grandchildren: Chantel Annette Mask, Leslie Diane Mask, Justin Alan Mask, Kelly Ann Mask, Jon Paul Mask, Heather Sheri Bland, and Brittany Danielle Bland.
