Charles Achenbach, 86, of 1002 N. 16th St., Manitowoc, died Monday after-
noon at Family Heritage Nursing Home, Manitowoc.
Funeral services will be at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Grace Lutheran Church,
Manitowoc. The Rev. Theodore Sauer will officiate and burial will be in
Evergreen Cemetery, Manitowoc.
Mr. Achenbach was born March 27, 1884, at Manitowoc, son of the late Jacob
and Elizabeth Krug Achenbach. He attended the First German Evangelical
Lutheran Church. He married Mrs. Edith Hoover April 25, 1931. He farmed on
the homestead farm at Alverno until 1947 when he moved to 42nd Street and
Waldo Boulevard. He lived there until retiring in 1965.
Mr. Achenbach was active in the community holding office in many farm
organizations. He was chairman of the Manitowoc Rapids Town Board and was
active on the Manitowoc County Board. He was one of the incorporators of
the Manitowoc County Farm Bureau and served as its first president from
1942 to 1945. He was honored as Wisconsin Master Farmer in 1930. He was
a member of First German Evangelical Lutheran Church until 1957, when he
became a member of Grace Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his wife; a step-son, a brother, Oscar Allerton, of
Laguna Hills, Calif.; a sister, Mrs. Edward (Ella) Meyers, of San Diego,
Calif.; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. A brother and
five sisters preceded him in death. (Survivors edited for privacy)
Friends may call at Urbanek and Schlei Funeral Home, Manitowoc, after
4 p.m. Wednesday until noon Thursday when the casket will be taken to the
church where the body will lie in state until time of services.
