John Wesley Millwee migrated with his family from Alabama in the 1840s to Sevier County, Arkansas. He owned two sections of land with the Millwee Place residence being located on the upper river bottom area east of the town of Horatio, AR. Upon his death, John Wesley donated land behind the old Millwee Place to be dedicated as a public cemetery, and he was buried, joining two family members who had been previously buried there (his half-sister, Nancy Anderson Pride, and his mother, Elizabeth Houston Millwee Pride) under an old oak tree behind the family homeplace. Incidently, that old oak tree is still standing in the year 2001.
The cemetery was created at that time, and is known today as the MILLWEE Cemetery.
John Wesley Millwee was a Justice of the Peace, and records show that he married many young couples, including several Millwee's and related family members.
