Bessie Abbie Deininger was born August 12 1890 in Great Valley, Cattaraugus County, NY. She was the daughter of farmer George J. Deininger and wife Charlotte E.(Lottie) Booth, both born in NY.
Bessie was the oldest of three children. Her siblings were Laura I. and Joseph A.
Bessie married James LeGrand Millholen on January 22 of 1913. The wedding was held in Bethel. Witnesses to their ceremony were Archie Aumock and Bessie’s sister Laura Deininger. Around this time Bessie and James relocated to Salamanca from Great Valley.
In 1926, Bessie was installed as the Supreme Guard for the P.H.C. Her husband was President.(Salamanca)
Bessie and James had only 2 children and they varied greatly in age, Etta Margaret and Charlotte Anna.
Around 1940 they relocated to East Otto.
On January 15 1947, Bessie passed away at 57 years old after being ill for 2 months and remaining in the Townsend Hospital in Gowanda for 7 days. After the wake at the family home (79 Waverly St. Cattaraugus), Mrs. Millholen was laid to rest on Sunday January 18 1947 in the family plot at Crawford Cemetery in Salamanca.(The Post. The immediate cause of death was circulatory collapse although she had other attributing medical conditions. Bessie’s husband is buried alongside her.
