She was born June 13, 1920, in St. Joseph, the daughter of Juanita and Filomenio "Frank" Montemayor Sr. She graduated from the Holy Rosary Catholic Elementary School. During World War II, she worked at the civil defense plant in Kansas City, Mo.
At the end of the war she married Marvin G. Lawrence; he preceded her in death. After all the children had left the house, she worked at Adams Mexican restaurant at 22nd and Francis, then worked at Barbosa Restaurant, and retired from the Missouri Methodist hospital, dietary department. She was also a Homemaker. Her love for dance started at a young age, where she danced in the first Mexican fiesta held at the Holy Rosary Catholic Church, and then most recently at her 90th birthday party in June. Toni had a great devotion to Our Lady of Guadalupe and her church. She was a member of the Former Holy Rosary Catholic Church and St. Patrick's Catholic Church. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Toni was preceded in death by husband, Marvin G. Lawrence; her parents; five brothers, Frank Montemore, Charles, Blas, Pablo, and Nemcio Montemayor; three sisters, Isabelle Cruz, Elsie Reno, and Lola Montemayor.
Survivors include three daughters: Gloria Fairchild of Maryland Heights, Mo.; Vivian Pilgrim and husband, Larry, of St. Joseph; and Barb Seckinger and husband, Clifford, of St. Joseph; three sons: Gary L. Lawrence of Kansas City, Mo.; Jimmy Lawrence of Peculiar, Mo.; and Robert Lawrence of St. Joseph; a brother, Merced Montemayor of St. Joseph; six grandchildren, Stacey Mull, Nolan Lawrence, Emily Fairchild, Heather Lawrence, Joshua Lawrence, and Kelsey Hubbard; two great-grandsons, Trevor Mull and Treyton Mull.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, October 12, 1 p.m. at the St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Fr. Jorge Ramirez Celebrant. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. on Monday at the Rupp Funeral Home. Interment will be at the Memorial Park Cemetery.
