Michael Joseph Latendresse was born on September 30, 1946 in Decatur, Illinois to Lyle and Esther Latendresse. Mike was the oldest brother to Sarah, Pat, and Tim Latendresse. He grew up in Grants Pass, Oregon. During his sophomore year of high school, he transferred to St. Mary's High in Medford, Oregon. Mike made many friends very quickly and was loved by all. Academically, Mike flourished. He won a United Nation's essay contest, was in the top 5 percent of his class, and was a member of the National Honor Society. He was student body vice president during his senior year and as a junior, he was class president. In addition, he was also in the Letterman's Club, Lancers and Sodality. Mike also succeeded in sports. He was on the track team, and played basketball and football. Although he was only 5-foot-6, 130 pounds, he was a very talented athlete.
On November 1, 1963, just 21 days before the assassination of President Kennedy, Mike was tragically killed in an automobile accident. The accident occurred just after the St. Mary's High bonfire to celebrate the game against their rival, Phoenix.
Mike made his parents so proud, and St. Mary's High even created an annual award called the "Mike Latendresse Inspirational Award" which is given to students who demonstrate involvement in school and good character.
Mike was an honorable and promising young man who will always be in our hearts and our thoughts.
