Brightwell Thompson was born 11 Sep 1819 in Monroe Co., VA (now WV). Brightwell was the ninth child of James and Mary Thompson. In 1823 at age 4, Brightwell moved with his parents, brothers and sisters from Monroe Co., VA(now WV) to Rush Co., IN. In 1840 Brightwell was listed as a land owner of 80 acres in Shelby Co., IN. On 25 Jul 1841 he married Elizabeth A Whorton in Rush County, IN. They were the parents of the following children, all born in Indiana: Harriet, b Apr 1842, Mary E, b abt 1845, John W, b 30 May 1849, and Martha J, b abt 1853. In 1870 the Brightwell Thompson family was living in Clay Co., IN and in 1872 they moved to Kansas. 1880 they had moved to near Culver, Ottawa Co., KS. Brightwell died 30 Apr 1905 at age 85 near Culver, Ottawa Co., KS.
