Chesnee, Sept. 3--- Mrs. Rachel Martin, 84, wife of Jesse G. Martin of York, former residents of the Cowpens Battleground section of near Chesnee, died at 8:35 o'clock Saturday night at the home of a daughter, Mrs. R.C.Godfrey of York.
Mrs. Martin had lived 11 years at York, where she was an active member of the Charlotte Street Baptist church for as long as her health permitted.
Surviving are her husband; two daughters, Mrs. Godfrey of York and Mrs. Henry E. Williams of Gaffney route 3; three sons, Alfred Martin of Mayo, J.H. Martin of Rock Hill and Roland Martin of Gaffney; two brothers, Carlisle Westbrook of Gaffney and the Rev. James Westbrook of Atlanta; and a number of grandchildren.
Funeral services will be conducted at 4 o'clock Monday afternoon at the New Pleasant Baptist church near Chesnee by the Rev. E.W.Buckner, the Rev. J.A.Brock, the Rev. W.C.Tate and the Rev. W.J. Sprinkles. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers will be T.O. Blanton, N.O.Wilson, Curtis Williams, Jesse Williams, Harley Williams and Claude Martin. Flower bearers will be Mrs.B.B.Meam,Jr., Mrs. L.D. Martin, Misses Margie Meek, Bonnie Nichols, Ruby Blanton, Dorothy May Blanton and Jean McManus.
The body will be at the home of Mrs. Godfrey in York until 2 o'clock Monday afternoon, when the funeral cortege will leave for the New Pleasant church. Arrangements are in charge of the Blackwell funeral home of Chesnee.
