Over the years she was active in the West Sacramento Historical Society and very much into preserving local landmarks. She paid off the mortgage on her parents' home, which included the Senator Garage (a gathering place for Broderick's car-crazy teens that was operated by her father Bill Parkinson). Family history was also important to her, and she preserved the information, documents and photos of the Parkinson Family (pioneers of Broderick, Yolo County, CA), which proved invaluable to family members interested in their lineage.
