He is best known for the song "The Donkey Serenade" and movies including "A Night at the Opera" (1935), "Show Boat" (1936), "Rose Marie" (1936), "A Day at the Races" (1937), "The Firefly" (1937) and "When Johnny Comes Marching Home" (1942), plus numerous others. He was the father of pop singer Jack Jones, and his last screen appearance was opposite his son in a 1980 episode of "The Love Boat", a series for which Jack performed the theme song.
