Memorial service for Charles G. "Chuck" Ackerman, 69, of Aberdeen, was 11:00am Monday, December 28, 2009 at Schriver's Memorial Mortuary and Crematory, Aberdeen. Chuck's wishes were to be cremated and interment of his cremated remains will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens Mausoleum with military honors by the Sidney L. Smith American Legion Post #24 of Aberdeen. A time of fellowship and luncheon will follow the service at Schriver's Memorial Fellowship Center. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the mortuary. Chuck passed away Sunday, December 20, 2009 at the Golden Living Center in Groton.

Charles G. Ackerman was born March 31, 1940 to Alvin and Marion D. (Daschel) Ackerman at Aberdeen where he was raised and graduated from Aberdeen Central High School. He started working with his father at Ackerman Welding Supply during high school and later was a second generation owner and operator of Ackerman Welding Supply for many years.

Chuck married Diane Smith in 1960 at Aberdeen. He later entered the US Army Reserves. After his honorable discharge he returned to Aberdeen and continued working at his family business, Ackerman Welding Supply. They sold the business in 1986 and he retired at that time.

Chuck married Peggy Ringler-Glover in 1981 at Aberdeen. After his retirement, he continued working part time in his own hobby shop on North Roosevelt Street. He enjoyed fixing things and especially enjoyed restoring old cars. He also owned many real estate rental properties such as The Body Shop Bar, Lords and Ladys Beauty Salon, The Inn Keeper and various other rental properties in Aberdeen.

Chuck is survived by two daughters, Christine (Marvin) Singrey of Hazel, SD and Michelle (John) Tatum of Dallas, TX, four step-children, David (Diane) Glover of Sioux Falls, Todd (Becky) Glover of Aberdeen, Jackie (Brian) Nesby of Ft. Collins, CO and Rod Glover of Fargo, ND two sisters, Barb (Jim) Hundstad of Bath and Donna (Eric) Chalimonczyk, Moorhead, MN two brothers, Robert (Vonnie) Ackerman of Rapid City, SD and Roger Ackerman of Aberdeen, twenty grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

Chuck was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Peggy in April of 2009 and one brother Richard.
