Mrs. Durkin died Sunday, Jan. 18, at home. She was 75.
She was born Nov. 11, 1928, in Grass Valley, to Harold and Marie (Rondoni) Painter. She attended Grass Valley Elementary School and graduated from Grass Valley High School in 1947. She married Marty Durkin on July 18, 1953, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Grass Valley. After high school, she went to work for Pacific Bell Telephone Company until she retired after 37 years of service.
She enjoyed playing women's softball and was in the Women's Softball Hall of Fame. She also bowled for several women's leagues. She was an avid San Francisco Giants fan. She enjoyed taking care of her great-nephews and great-nieces, sewing for her family and friends, and crocheting.
She is survived by her husband, Marty Durkin of Grass Valley; brothers and sisters-in-law Lawrence and Carol Painter of Grass Valley and Royce and Judy Painter of Nevada City; nephews Dennis, David, Kenneth and John Painter of Nevada City and Doug and Dean Painter of Grass Valley; nieces Debra and Teri Painter of Nevada City; uncle, George Rondoni of Grass Valley; aunts Alma Nankervis and Jessie Painter of Grass Valley; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Joe and Frances Durkin of Grass Valley; sister-in-law, Mary Costa of Grass Valley; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Harold Painter, in 1944; and mother, Marie Painter, in 1961.
