Mrs. Sweet Called Home -- It was with Sadness that the many friends in this city received the news Monday evening of the death of Mrs. Eliza Marie Vannordstrand Sweet, age 78 years. About three weeks ago Mrs. Sweet contracted bronchial pneumonia and despite her advanced age made a gallant fight against the disease but owing to her age, was so weakened that she could not rally and death came on Monday evening at nine o'clock to relieve her of her suffering and her soul went out to the home above.

The funeral services were held on Wednesday afternoon at the home of her daughter Mrs. M. S. Hull, a short but impressive sermon being preached by Rev. H. L. Goodrich of the Methodist church, and remains were laid to rest in the family lot in Woodland cemetery beside her husband and son Frank.

Eliza Marie Vannordstand Sweet was born at New Fane, New York, June 18th, 1837 and she lived until June of this year would have been 79 years of age. On October 12th, 1854 the family moved to Youngstown, N. Y. and a short time later she was married at Cambria, N. Y., to Mr. Martin V. Sweet. The couple resided at Lewiston, N.Y. until 1857 when they moved to Michigan where they resided until 1893 when they moved to Stockham, Neb., where they resided until that fall when they moved to Washburn where Mrs. Sweet has since made her home. On April 1st, 1895 Mr. Sweet passed away and for the past eight years Mrs. Sweet has made her home with her daughter, Mrs. M. S. Hull.

Mrs. Sweet was a kind, motherly, Christian woman, beloved by all who knew her. In her quiet way she was continually spreading deeds of kindness which will be long be remembered by those who knew her best. During her earthly life she has been building up a home on high and when the angel of death came on Monday night to take up the soul from her earthly body there came over her face that sweet, peaceful smile which indicated that the struggle of life was over and that the soul had gone to its just reward in that heavenly home above.

Mrs. Sweet leaves to mourn her loss, three sons and a daughter, William I. Sweet of Deer River, Minn., Charles E. Sweet of Fort Madison, Iowa, Martin M. Sweet of Chicago, and Mrs. M. S. Hull of this city, besides a number of other relatives and many friends. The Times joins with a host of friends in extending most sincere and heartfelt sympathies to the sorrowing relatives in their hour of sorrow. Among the out-of-town relatives who were here to attend the funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Wm. I. Sweet of Deer River, Minn., Mrs. Hazel Young, a neice, of Ironwood, Mich., Mrs. John Coffee of Park Falls and Mrs. William Otis of Ashland. --

Card of Thanks To the large number of kind and helpful folks in the Methodist church, and the intimate neighbors and friend who were so solicitous for the welfare of those in need of help and sympathy during the late illness and death of our beloved mother, we wish to express our deepest appreciation, and assure all that we will ever hold in fondest remembrances the many kindnesses. Mr. and Mrs. M. S. Hull - Mr. and Mrs. W. I. Sweet.
