Captain O.M.Foote, Civil War Veteran dies at 80 years old. Returning to his home of his son, Lewis Alton of 313 13th st Sioux City, IA with whom he had lived since coming to IA fours ago and after having witnessed the first ball game of the season played yesterday, Capt Foote retired to his room where he was found by his son at dinner time, aproximately 6 o'clock. Captain Foote had always been vigorus and hearty, his death being cause by heart failure. The remains will be taken to Madrid, N.Y. where he will be buried next to his wife.
A singular coincedence in connection with his untimely death was the presence yesterday in the Foote householda number of his friends from Kimball S.D. that came as guests had been enjoying a house party and the vernerable old man had been going about in his usual good health partcipating in the fun and amusements. He was an enthusiastic baseball fan and would not wait to eat lunch, so anxious was he to get to the grounds to see the opening game of the season between the White Sox and the Packers.

Captain Foote's war record; when the Civil War broke out, in 1862, he was sworn in as a private at Ogdensburg, N.Y. as a memeber of the sixtieth New York veterans volunteers. Soon after his enlistement he was promoted to the rank of captain and with the exception of the last six months of the cruel strife he served with his regiment throughout the war. The last six months he spent in the hospital recuperating from severe wounds which he received in battle. He participated in the fights at Gettysburg, Chancellorville and severalof the other noted conflicts that hve reddended the pages of American History with stories of bloodshed and death. He was with Sherman at Atlanta and just before the famous general started on his memoriable march to the sea Captian Foote was so badly wounded that he was lamed for life. (lost left index finger) After the war ended he returned to his wife and two children at Madrid, N.Y. and acquired possesion of several farms. After the death of his wife, at age only 54 (1884) he went to Kimball, S.D. to live with his son, L.A. Foote until in 1904 when they all came to Sioux City, IA. Captain Foote is survived by three sons, Dr. J.J. Foote of Parishville,N.Y. C.M.Foote of San Diego, CA and L.A. Foote of Sioux City, IA. He was a memeber of the G.A.R. at Kimball,S.D. and when taps are sounded over the graveof the aged patriot at his old New York home the flag he so faithfully revered will be wrapped around his body as a final mark of love and respect.
