Ellen R. Wise
Bixby, Oklahoma
September 16, 1926 - July 8, 2021

Services have been scheduled for 2:00 P.M. Tuesday, July 13, 2021 in the First Baptist Church of Mounds, OK. Graveside services will be held at 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, July 14 in the Cyril Cemetery of Cyril, OK.

Ellen was born September 16, 1926, the only daughter of Grover C. and Margaret Register Carr, in Littlefield, Texas. She had two older brothers, Burl and Loyal, and a younger brother, Curtis Wayne, "Pete". All of whom preceded her in death.

Ellen lived through many difficult and eventful times in her life. When she was young, the family lost their farm during the Great Depression and then went on to endure the Dust Bowl era. They attended small country churches where Grover usually led the music for the congregations. She was a good student, loved learning, and enjoyed reading which would become a lifelong pleasure.

Ellen married Charles DeWitt Wise, Jr. on July 17, 1943, and their marriage of 66 years was a blessed one. They loved the Lord and served Him together in their church homes in all the places they lived during those years until C.D.'s death in 2009. It is hard to put into words the impact this couple made on the lives of their family, friends and church families. They loved and were loved in return.

Ellen and C.D. were blessed with two children, Jimmy Wade and Patricia Sue. They were her "pride and joy." Jim graduated from Oklahoma State University with a bachelor's degree and later graduated from the University of Nebraska with a master's and doctorate in meat science. He worked for the USDA in Washington, D.C. Patty attended Oklahoma Baptist University pursuing a degree in music, but due to a long term health issue was not able to complete her degree. She had a beautiful soprano voice and loved to sing and play the piano. Patty passed away at the age of 30, another challenge that Ellen met with courage and faith.

Ellen's work life included many diverse jobs. She was a "Rosie the Riveter" working for Douglas Aircraft in California for a time while C.D. was in the Navy during World War II. In 1954 they moved to Cyril, Oklahoma where they bought a grocery store. She worked in the store stocking shelves and checking out customers. After they sold the grocery store she worked as the church secretary at First Baptist Church for a few years. She later went to work for Public Service Company of Oklahoma managing their office in Cyril. After her work at PSO, she returned to being a homemaker. She later volunteered at a hospital in Lawton where she made beautiful floral arrangements both for display at the hospital and to sell in their gift shop, a hobby she continued to enjoy for many years. She shared this hobby by helping with numerous weddings and by making arrangements for her church homes at Cyril and Mounds.

C.D. and Ellen moved to Mounds in 2000 to be near family. Their son, Jim, built a home next door to them at Twin Lakes Estates in Mounds. They became members of First Baptist Church, Mounds, after having invested 45 years of service at First Baptist Church, Cyril. Ellen continued to live in her home at Mounds after the death of C.D. until her failing eyesight led her to move to Baptist Village at Okmulgee where she made her home for the last three years.

She is survived by her son, Jim Wise of Mounds, a sister-in-law, Georgia Wise of Gause, Texas, brother-in-law, Wayne Wise and his wife, Glenda, of Paris, Texas, and numerous nieces and nephews.
