HANNIBAL - Walter Lee Tapley Jr., 54, of Brandon, Fla., and formerly of New London, died at 8:26 p.m. Monday, Oct. 23, 2006, at Tampa General Hospital in Tampa, Fla.
Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 28, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home in Hannibal. The Rev. Roger Huff will officiate. Burial, with full military rites by Emmette J. Shields American Legion Post No. 55, will be at Flint Hill Cemetery in rural New London.
Visitation will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 27, at the James O'Donnell Funeral Home.
Mr. Tapley was born Sept. 26, 1952, in Hannibal to Walter Lee and Dorothy A. Selleck Tapley Sr.
He was married to Connie Avery on Sept. 1, 1992, in Las Vegas, Nev. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Stephanie M. Tapley of Brandon, Fla., Amanda L. Tapley (Tim Bullock) of Charlton, Mass., and Wendi N. Gay (Brad Meyers) of Brownsburg, Ind.; three sons, Jason P. Mole (Lynn) of Conway, S.C., Derek W. Tapley of New London and Jason A. Gay of Brandon, Fla.; two brothers, Robin Tapley (Pam) of New London and Ronald Tapley (Helen) of New London; one sister, Sandra Tapley of New London; two grandchildren, Noah Mole and Bryson Murphy; several aunts, uncles and cousins; and a lot of very special friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one daughter, Jessica Elizabeth Tapley.
Mr. Tapley was a U.S. Army veteran of Vietnam. He worked as an electrician for Amtrak. He was a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, Local 481 in Indianapolis, Ind. He loved hunting, fishing, boating, baseball and reading. He was a Christian by faith.
Memorial contributions may be made to Stephanie M. Tapley Education Fund, in care of the James O'Donnell Funeral Home Inc.
