Pembroke - Joe Thomas Bacon, 72, died Sunday at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah after a long illness. The native and life-long resident of Bryan County was a member of Westside Christian Church of Bloomingdale. He was a retired farmer and land clearer.

Surviving are his wife, Mrs. Mattie L. Bacon of Pembroke; four sons, Thomas Bacon of Columbia, S.C., Harold J. Kenny and Michael Bacon; five daughters, Mrs. Linda Adams and Mrs. Patricia Blair, all of Pembroke, Mrs. Miriam Smith of Daisy, Mrs. Jewel Coley of Augusta and Mrs. Brenda May of Richmond Hill; four sisters, Mrs. Rosa Lee Shuman and Mrs. Aline Ansley, both of Faulkville, Mrs. Hattie McDonald of Blackville, S.C., and Mrs. Mae Maestanford of Americus; 27 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Funeral: 3:30 p.m. today at Morrison Funeral Home of Pembroke, burial in North Side Cemetery in Pembroke.
