Norval was a son of Robert Duckson and Jane Virginia Smithson. He married Fannie N. Carlisle about 1897. She was married previously and had a son, Howard Carlisle Dolithill, whom Norval raised as his son and he later went by the Duckson name.
Norval and Fannie had a daughter, Corrine M. Duckson in 1898 and a son, Russel Harrison Duckson, Sr. in 1900. An infant died in 1902 and is buried in the Old Greencastle Cemetery, Dayton, Ohio.
