Cause of death - Apoplexy.

1] Margaret Jeffreys ANDERSON
on 1 February 1821
in the Holy Trinity Cathedral
at Quebec City, Quebec.
They were the parents of;
William Anthony, William Cutter.

2] Margaretta Josepha IRELAND
on 8 December 1831
in the Holy Trinity Cathedral
at Quebec City, Quebec.
They were the parents of;
Charlotte Maria, Hammond,
William Swainson, Edmund,
Margaretta Josepha, Louisa Sophia.

In 1815 Hammond was appointed Cornet
in the Provincial Light Calvary.
In 1820 he was appointed to Lieutenant.
In 1845 Hammond was appointed one of the 15 directors for the Quebec High School.
In 1850 Hammond contracted to have two brick houses built on Ste. Genevieve Street; also a 4 story cut-stone mansion built at
5 St. Denis Street in Quebec City, where
the Gowen family resided.
On 10 April 1862, Hammond prepared his will. He had been very successful in his business ventures, acquiring great wealth, and left substantial legacies to his family.

January 12, 1810: Hammond Gowen went
into partnership with his brother-in-law, William Hall, who was well established in two hat businesses. The firm of Hall and Gowen was involved in the hat trade, also in lumber and foodstuffs. During the War of 1812, the partners sold hats and uniforms to the military. William Hall became interested in public works, then terminated their partnership on 15 February 1815.

QUEBEC GAZETTE - 18 & 21 April 1864:

DIED - Hammond Gowen [Esquire], Justice
of the Peace, died this morning on the 18th instant, in his 80th year. He one of our oldest and most respected citizens.
Mr. Gowen had, for many years, been one of the leading merchants of Quebec; and, during his business career, he was distinguished by high personal honor, unswerving integrity, and, an amount of intelligence and ability which won for him the friendship and esteem of his fellow merchants, and contributed largely to his success. For a long time past, however, Mr. Gowen had retired from business, but he continued to enjoy in private life, the respect and confidence which he had won by his conduct during a long and useful career.
His death will be regretted by all classes of citizens
The funeral took place on the 20th. The cortege was numerous, showing the esteem in which the lamented deceased was held - many of our leading merchants and most prominent citizens following the remains to their last resting place in Mount Hermon Cemetery.
