Effie Lea Mayse Clark, 99, of Charlottesville, died on Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at the home of her daughter, Juanita Sprouse.

She was born on April 2, 1911, in Rockbridge County, Virginia, the daughter of the late Luther Jackson Mayse and Nancy Jane Mayse of Vesuvius, Virginia.

She was also preceded in death by her husband, Levi James Clark; four brothers, Grimm Edgar Mayse, Dave Mayse, Herbert Mayse, and Rowlen Mayse; and five sisters, Bertha Pultz, Agnes Clark, Margaret Cochran, Ella Mayse and Callie Mayse.

She is survived by six daughters, Juanita Sprouse of Charlottesville, Georgia Davis of Haymarket, Hilda Gent and her husband, Jack, of Ocala, Florida, Ruth Donnelly and her husband, Stuart, of Ocala, Florida, Lake McIntosh of Orange, Mary McAllister and her husband, James, of Crozet; two sons, Lester Clark and his wife, Ann, of Ivy, and Miles Clark of Dunedin, Florida; 18 grandchildren, 30 great-grandchildren, six great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews and cherished life-long friends, Elizabeth and Brand McCaskill.

The family thanks nurse Diane Meitzler RN and Elizabeth CNA, for their compassionate care.

A funeral service was held Saturday, October 16, 2010, at the Teague Chapel with Doctor Edgar Mayes and the Reverend William McCaskill officiating.

Interment at Monticello Memory Gardens.
