Vesta was the oldest child of Samuella Little and David William Martin. She had 7 siblings. She married Thomas McDaniel Herod in Grapeland, Texas. Her sons Carl and Roy were born in Grapeland before the family moved to West Texas. Her last three children Thomas, Leland, and Mildred (our mother) were born in West Texas. Vesta liked having company. She was a very religious woman and was the peace maker for the family. When her sisters would have babies, she would go live with them to help with the new baby. Her family would always look forward to her return to the kitchen.
