Mr. Conrad died Friday, Aug. 13, 2010, at Delaware Hospice Center, Milford, surrounded by his family.
Born in 1937, in Dover, he was the son of the late John Henry Conrad Sr. and Helen Conrad Hess.
Mr. Conrad was a 1955 graduate of Dover High School. He served his country proudly in the U.S. Navy for 13 years as a corpsman on the USS Guide and USS Intrepid.
He worked in Washington, D.C. for the American Legion for several years and for the Delaware State Board of Health. He retired in 1996 after 19 years with Equitable Life Insurance/American General Life Insurance.
Mr. Conrad's hobbies included fishing and golfing.
He was a member of Dover Elks Lodge No. 1903, where he started the Elks member Golf League and the Youth Fishing Derby. He held several offices in the Elks, both local and district wide. He also was a member of the American Legion Walter L. Fox Post No. 2, Dover, the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Delaware Mobile Surf Fishermen, the United Mobile Surf Fishermen, and the People's United Church of Christ, Dover.
Mr. Conrad is survived by his wife of 30 years, Linda Conrad; a daughter and son-in-law, Jackie and Josh Etzweiler; and a granddaughter, Silver Etzweiler.
Interment will be at 2 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 19 at the Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 26669 Patriot's Way, Millsboro.
