Funeral services for Blake Fanning Hughes, 83, Pemberton, will be conducted at l p.m. Friday in the Williams Funeral Home Chapel, Sophia, with the Rev. W. F. Tolliver in charge. Burial will be in the Pemberton Cemetery. Hughes died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday after a five-year illness. Death was attributed to a heart attack. Born in Ash County, N.C., April 19, 1878, a son of the late Charles E. and Winnie Hughes, he was a retired coal miner from the Lillybrook Coal Co., where he worked for 50 years. He was a member of the Sophia Friendship Baptist Church. Survivors include his wife Mrs. Delilah Lester Hughes; 5 sons: Cecil C., Sophia, Roy M., Port Arthur, Tex., Russell B. and George W., both of Pemberton, and Edward B., Lorain. Ohio; 3 daughters, Mrs. Mary Young and Mrs. June Williams, both of Middletown, Ohio, and Mrs. Nellie Lilly, Beaver. The body will remain at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Jarrell Campbell, Quinton Bell, Jack Bousheley, Frederick Cassity, Lancy Windon and William J. Payne. (Newspaper obituary)
