KENSINGTON - Robert D. Casner, 85, of Kensington, passed away Monday, Aug. 16, 2010, at the Hospital of Central CT, New Britain.

Robert was the son of the late Edson H. and Mary (Beirne) Casner, and was the husband of Gloria "Jean" (Copes) Casner. He retired from Barridon Corp., where he had been employed as an engineer. He was a veteran having served in the U.S. Army. He was a charter member of the South Kensington Fire Department and was a member of Saint Paul Church.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by one son, William R. Casner and his wife, Dorotha, of Kensington; two daughters, Kathryn J. Casner and Dr. Ann Aresco and her husband, George, all of Kensington; two sisters, Katherine D'Addio, of Albany N.Y., Anne "Nancy" Adams, of Southington; a brother, George Casner, of Cheshire; seven grandchildren, Michael and Brent Casner, Daniel and Jeffery Aresco, Lisa Smith, Emily Pelletier and Paul Berger; two great-grandchildren, Chloe Pelletier and Brady Smith; several nieces and nephews; and lifelong friends, Allan Gemmell and Robert Messmer. Robert was predeceased by a son, Officer Jeffery Casner; three brothers, John Casner, James Casner and Edward Casner; and a sister, Dorothy Riccio.

Friends and family are invited to call Wednesday, Aug. 18, from 4 to 8 p.m., at the Berlin Memorial Funeral Home, 96 Main St., Kensington. Everyone is invited to go directly to Saint Paul Church for a Mass of Christian Burial Thursday, Aug. 19 at 10 a.m. Burial with military honors will follow in Maple Cemetery, Berlin. Donations in Robert's memory may be made to the donor's choice.
