Annie May was born to Thomas Benton and Sarah Elizabeth Staley Fuller.

She married Joseph Mayo on July 28, 1904 in Wayne County, West Virginia at the home of her sister Alice Fuller Perdue.

Born to this union: Golda, Charles Edward, Golden, Rutherford Hayes, Joseph, Daisy Belle and Elva Evelyn. They settled on Bob's Branch and reared their children there.

(This account according to Charles Edward Mayo, Jr.)

I do not remember grandma. I do remember her yelling at us grandchildren and everyone scattered. The older children said she had a whip they called “cat of nine tails”. My dad Charles Mayo Sr. said he had two siblings who died of the Spanish Flu; John Thomas and Marie. Crit Pyles Ward told me she helped the family who were all sick and the little girl died first. Annie was raised on Buffalo Creek where her ancestors settled, migrating from the Clinch River, Virginia area. Annie's family transferred their church membership to Washington Baptist Church and that is likely how she met grandpa.

Annie died of Toxemia due to Ptomaine Poisoning in the Memorial Hospital in Huntington, Cabell County, West Virginia.
