Joseph G. Brustman of Liberty, a lifelong area resident and a retired auto parts wholesaler for South End Auto Parts in Liberty, died Wednesday, December 1, 2004, at the Seelig Division of the Catskill Regional Medical Center in Harris. He was 84 years of age.
The son of the late Jacob and Mary Sator Brustman, he was born October 16, 1920, in Obernburg.
A World War II Army veteran, he achieved the rank of sergeant and received the Bronze Star, the Purple Heart and various other commendations. Mr. Brustman was a member of St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church in Liberty; a life member of Ontario Hose Co. #3 of the Liberty Fire Department; a member of the Kelly-Ratner Post #198, DAV, in Kauneonga Lake; and a member of the Clarence Hoyt Post #9217, VFW, in Liberty.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Mesawich Brustman, at home; a daughter and son-in-law, Linda and Ed McClenahan of Roanoke, Va.; three brothers, Fred Brustman of Obernburg, Lt. Colonel (Ret.) William Brustman of Obernberg, and Clarence Brustman of East Haven, Conn.; a sister, Ida Watson of Youngsville; a granddaughter, Lauren Hardt and her husband, Tim, of South Bend, Ind.; and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a brother, George Brustman, and three sisters, Barbara Coger, Marie Mannion and Catherine Whatley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Peter's Roman Catholic Church, 264 N. Main St., Liberty, on Tuesday at 11:45 a.m. with Monsignor Edward Straub officiating.
Burial will be made in the Liberty Cemetery with full military honors.
Funeral arrangements were made by the Ramsay's Funeral Home in Liberty.
