MRS. EMMA YEREX DIES DEC. 22 AT UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL, ANN ARBOR
Mrs. Emma Yerex, sister of Mrs. Josephone Whitehead of Newaygo, died Wednesday, December 22 [1943], at University Hospital in Ann Arbor, fol lowing a long illness. Mrs. Yerex, who had spent much time here [in Newaygo] with her sister during the past year, had gone to the home of her daughter, Mrs. William Slade, in Ann Arbor, and was taken to the hospital about a week before her death and friends here were informed that she had contracted influenza. Mrs. Whitehead had visited her sister a short time before her passing, but had gone on to Detroit to spend Christmas with her daughters.
Mrs. Yerex was the daugher of Mr. and Mrs. John Giles, who came to Michigan from Hagersville, Canada, in 1870. The family resided at Grand Haven, at Trufant and at Central Lake. She was married to Charles Yerex, who was operator and agent at the Newaygo Pere Marquette depot for a number of years during the 1890's. Mr. Yerex died many years ago.

Surviving are her daughters, Mrs. Slade, Mrs. Bertha Whiteman of Chicago, and a third daughter, Catherine, who is marriend and living in South Africa; several grandchildren, and six sisters, Mrs. Whitehead, Mrs. Hattie Ogletree, Mrs. Bertha Cutler and Mrs. Leafa Mason of Central Lake, Mrs. Kathering Dodge of Ionia, and Mrs. Margaret Terry of Tacoma, Wash.

The body was taken to Central Lake where it is understood that funeral services were to take place.
