Taylor King Hatcher was born in Anderson County, South Carolina. He grew up near the town of Anderson. About 1873 he married to Eliza "Liza" Elizabeth Simmons.

Taylor and Liza lived for a few years in Anderson County, then in the winter of 1887-1888 they moved to Cass County, Texas. After a few years they bought a farm in Shiloh community.

Taylor was a farmer. He and Liza were faithful Methodists. Taylor was also an avid fisherman. They became the parents of eleven children, the first five of which were born in South Carolina, the remainder in Texas.

Eliza passed away in 1926. Taylor survived his wife fourteen years. His death occurring in 1940.

The children of Taylor and Eliza were: Susan Idea, Lucy Ann Maude, Effie Delorn, Silas Wesley, Walter Hodges, Arie Eva, William Charles, Thomas Dodge, Carrie Levona, Docke Luther, and Addie Bula.
