Arel Speer White Sr., 66, a resident of 5962 Drake Road, died September 9, 1997, at the High Point Regional Hospital. His death was unexpected.
The funeral will be conducted at 1 p.m. Friday from the Cumby Archdale Chapel with the Rev. J.C. Alley and Dr. James Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the Guilford Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was born June 3, 1931, in Guilford County, a son of William Jack and Sally Speer White. He had lived in Baltimore, Maryland, for 27 years prior to moving to Greensboro 18 years ago. Mr. White was a retired employee of Bethlehem Steel Company and a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church. On Dec. 8, 1974, he married the former Miss Shirley Allen who survives of the home.
Also surviving are one son, Arel S. White Jr. of Baltimore, Md.; two stepsons, Rex Carlton of Stokesdale, and Eric Carlton of Pfafftown; three granddaughters; his mother, Mrs. Sally S. White of Drake Road, Greensboro; two brothers, Jackie White of Statesville, and Lloyd "Bud" White of Crawford, Colo.; and four sisters, Mrs. Jean Oliver, Mrs. Arlis Farlow and Mrs. Nora Harden, all of Greensboro, and Mrs. Mary Ruth Smith of Raleigh.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Thursday, and other times at the residence.
