"Albert Brandon was in Spanish-American War - Albert H (Dick) Brandon 96, a Spanish-American War veteran, died at 10:30 am Sunday in the Butler Veterans Hospital, where he had been a patient for the last month. A long-time resident of Franklin, Mr Brandon had resided for many years on Second Avenue, Bleakley Hill. More recently he had been making his home with his daughter, Mrs Helen Stover of 135 Maple St, Rocky Grove. He was born Sept 5, 1874, in Rockland, the son of Sylvester and Irene Cramer Brandon. For many years he worked as a carpenter with the Atlantic Refining Co. He also was a skilled tool dresser and driller and had worked for a time at Wolverine in Reno. He he had also run oil leases locally and in Forest County, and was an ardent farmer. Mr Brandon was very proud of the fact that he had served his country in the Spanish-American War, and of the fact that his father was a Civil War veteran, a brother in World War I, a grandson in World War II and a grandson who served in Korea. He was married to the former Mary Elliot Grossman in 1903. She died in August of 1955. Surviving are two daughters, Mrs Rollie (Helen) Stover of Franklin and Mrs Clayton (Thelma) Singleton of Norwalk, Calif; one son, Orrin R Brandon of Livingston, Mont; a brother, Eugene Brandon of Franklin; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sons, Herman R and Domer Brandon. Also deceased are the following brothers and sisters: Ella Brandon, Rose Peterson, Minnie Foltz, Edna Baker, Lulu Roche, John Brandon and Thomas Brandon. Friends may call...at the John J Berg Funeral Home, where services will be held at 2:30 pm Tuesday. The Rev William McCray, pastor of the Galloway United Methodist Church, will officiate. Interment will be in Franklin Cemetery."
