John Alpert, 93, formerly of Sheboygan, died Friday evening at Shawano Medical Center in Shawano, Wis. John was born Nov. 14, 1910, in Sheboygan, to Reuven and Frances (Kapolovitz) Alpert. He attended local schools. On March 8, 1936, he married Gladys Hoffmann of Duluth, Minn. in Wausau, Wis.

John was the owner of ABC Markets in Appleton and Manitowoc. The family resided in Appleton from 1936 to 1957 and in Manitowoc from 1957 to 1960. The couple then moved to Vero Beach, Fla., where John was proprietor of a wholesale produce business. In April of 2004, the Alpert,s returned to Wisconsin. Mr. Alpert was a founding member of B'nai Emet Temple in Vero Beach.

John's beloved family include his wife, Gladys "Birdie"; two daughters, Karen (Allan) Entous, Encino, Calif., and Rene Sumnicht, Bonduel, Wis.; six grandchildren, David (Marilyn) Sumnicht, Laurie (Joel) Pieper, Susan (Jay) Krull, Dan (Hari) Entous, Robert Entous and Marc Entous; six great-grandchildren, Jared, Ben and Jenifer Krull, Danielle Pieper, Dana and Derek Sumnicht; and other family members and friends.

John was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Dennis Sumnicht; a brother; and six sisters.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday 12 noon at Ballhorn Funeral Chapels. Rabbi Isaac Lerer of Temple Menorah, Milwaukee, will officiate. Burial will follow in Sheboygan Hebrew Cemetery.
