Amanda Carol Smith, 39, of Nutmeg Court, Waynesville, died Saturday, Oct. 16, 2010.

Services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Bishop Steve Adler officiating.

The family will receive friends from 11 a.m. until 1:45 p.m., prior to the service hour.

Burial will be in Green Hill Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Rob Howard, Brandon Allen, Joey Robinson, Tim Carver, Ben Peterson and Taylor Yates. The Tuscola football team will serve as honorary pallbearers.

A native of Catawba County, she had resided in Haywood County for most of her life. She was a daughter of Wayne and Dottie Wood Smith of Waynesville. She received an associate's degree in dental hygiene and bachelor's degree in education from Western Carolina University.

Formerly a dental hygienist for Drs. Stallard and Ferguson, she was a seventh-grade math teacher at Fairview Elementary School. She also worked part time at Miss Caroline's Wedding Chapel. She enjoyed clogging and watching her son's soccer and football games.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are one son, Christopher Smith of the home; and two brothers, Phillip Smith of Waynesville and Steven Smith of Waynesboro, Va.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Christopher Grant Smith Education Fund at Wachovia Bank, 339 Russ Ave., Waynesville, NC 28786.
