He was born on November 22, 1943 in Wrights, the son of the late Ralph Henry "Rowdy" and Helen Louise Piper SHAFER.
Also surviving are children: Amy WASSON of Bowling Green Missouri, Doug (Zoe) TALLEY of Carrollton, Michelle (Mark) CASELTON of Carrollton, Shanan (John) GILL of Carrollton and Kate TALLEY of Carrollton; grandchildren: Samantha CARROLL of Wann, Oklahoma, Jerrad, Michael and Amanda TALLEY, Will, Tosha, Virgil and Leigh JONES, Emily TALLEY, Tyler and Miranda SWEARINGIN, Samantha CASELTON, Kara GILL, Ali GIBSON, Carly COTTINGHAM; a son-in-law, R. B. JONES of Bowling Green, Missouri; five brothers and 3 sisters; Frank (Jan) SHAFER of Springfield, Nada KING of Woodson, Darrell(Emily) SHAFER of Clinton, Missouri, Linda SETTLES of Jacksonville, Larry (Bev )SHAFER of Rochester, David (Ann) SHAFER of Jacksonville, Richard SHAFER of Wrights and Debbie (Rick) WELLHAUSEN of Carrollton.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Carroll Ray SHAFER.
Mr. SHAFER had worked for the Bob Lamb Co. in Greenfield and more recently did farming and field service work.
Graveside memorial rites will be conducted on Wednesday at 2 p.m. at the Hickory Grove Cemetery in Wrights.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Greene County Health Department, The Blessing Hospice of Greene County or the Wann Fire Department, P O Box 125 Wann, OK 74083.
