Written about him by his niece Beatrice Cleone Simmons Mathys:
Fred and Matilda "Tilly" came to Nebraska in 1892 where he farmed and raised horses near Lexington. Around 1921 or a bit later, he left the farm in his sons (Herb) care and moved to land west of Grand Island. He later bought a home in the west part of the city with easy access to the farm. It was in this same home they raised the Kampfe Children (4) as a second family after the death of their daughter Ella (the children's mother, father gave the children to them).

Note: Fred's parents farm was in the township of Ludlow,in Allamakee County, near the town of Waukon, Allamakee, Iowa. So most family just says Waukon. Though he and his siblings were born in Ludlow Township area on the farm. He was the 3rd child of August and Minnie's. Being their 2nd son out of 5 sons and had one older sister. He out lived all of his siblings. He and Tilly had 3 daughters and one son. All are linked to them.
