Frank Byron Holmes was born April 29, 1885 in Hopkinsburg,Mi., and died February 23, 1955 in Otsego,Mi. He married Nora Letha Aurand April 28, 1914 in Otsego,Mi., daughter of Harvey Aurand and Mary Thomas. Frank quit school in the fourth grade and worked on his parent's farm until he was old enough to go to work in a factory in Battle Creek Michigan. When Frank was in his early twenties he got a job at the Number 1 Bardeen Paper Mill on North Farmer Street in Otsego Michigan. He worked there a couple of years and in 1910 moved to Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, where he went to work on the Great Northern Railroad, as a track walker. After a couple of years of working there, he returned to Michigan and went to work for Nichol's and Shepard's Bread Company in Battle Creek Michigan. After two years he quit his bread job and went to work back on the farm belonging to his Mother and Stepfather on 108th Street in Otsego Township, Otsego Michigan. Later he inherited the farm from his parents. Frank also worked at the Number 2 Bardeen Paper Mill off and on during this time. In late 1917 he was drafted for service, but when he reported for duty to Fort Custer, he was informed that WWI was ending and was not needed. Shortly after this he hired into the Allied Paper Mill on Helen Ave. in Otsego Michigan, where he worked till his death. Frank is buried in Mountain Home Cemetery, Otsego Michigan.
