*** Senior Chief Aviation Electronics Technician Harris was a member of Heavy Attack Squadron 4, Carrier Air Wing 11 aboard the aircraft carrier USS KITTY HAWK (CVA-63). On April 12, 1966, he was a crew member of a Tanker Aircraft (KA-3B) enroute from Cubi Point Naval Air Station, Philippines to the carrier. The aircraft was shot down by the Chinese. His remains were not recovered. His name is inscribed on the Courts of the Missing at the Honolulu Memorial.

He was shot down on his 28th birthday 4/12/66 over water in China. While the remains of one crew member were returned, the remaining four including Harris, have not been accounted for. There has been a presumptive finding of death in his case (in 1977).
Casualty was on April 12, 1966.
