Actress, Comedienne. She is best-known as an American comedic actress and for the role of the brassy waitress Shirley on the 1976 sitcom "What's Happening!!" When the sitcom was cancelled in 1979, she had an opportunity for her own sitcom "One In A Million," which aired in 1980 for one season. Later in 1985, she reprised the Shirley role on the sitcom "What's Happening Now!!" This sitcom lasted for three seasons. At that point, she returned to being a standup comedienne. After high school, she received an athletics scholarship to Morristown College where she majored in physical education, but after graduation, only found mill work in her hometown. She left North Carolina in 1973 for Hollywood, seeking a career as a standup comedienne. She died of renal failure a month after her "What's Happening!!" costar, Mabel King.
